A Tribute to SRV

Eighteen years ago today, one of the greatest modern blues guitarists of our generation was taken from us in a helicopter crash, right after one of his concerts.  Who knows where Stevie Ray Vaughan may be today, how much farther he might have gone, what more he might have done.  He was an influence on a whole new generation of aspiring blues musicians, and had the respect of those that came before him as well.  His music lives on to this day, even his masterful remakes of some classic tunes.  So for tonight’s Musical Interlude, I’ll post two clips, one of him and one of a tribute to him.  Question is, which ones to post, with all the fantastic performances he did?  Decisions, decisions.  Oh well, gotta start somewhere.

Here is one of my favorites, an early live clip of him performing “Voodoo Chile”.  This one he really puts it all out there.

And here’s an all-star tribute to him put together by his brother, Jimmie (who I consider almost, but not quite, as good as his little brother).  This is “Six Strings Down”.  As a bonus, try naming all those performing with him, most are legends in their own right.  The intro to this video is “Life By The Drop”, follwed by a brief interview with Jimmie before getting into their performance.

I could choose many others, but I don’t want to overdo the videos.  So enjoy what I’ve posted here, and here’s to hoping that Stevie is keeping those in the next life well entertained.  Rest in peace, SRV.
