Question for the ages

What is it about love that strips away any veneer of civility and gives two people liberty to be as hateful and ugly to each other as they please?  Why is it that there are rules of civility for strangers but none for lovers?  Why does love make one want to hurt another?

  1. Don’t know for sure…but I feel it has something to do with a sense of loss. Could be loss of self, loss of confidence, loss of hope…but I hope whatever it is can be found again for you.

  2. I don’t know. I wonder about this myself. Cruelty to, by, from those who claim to hold us in high regard is a real stumper. I can only assume it’s the belief that the closeness lends itself to verbal diarrhea, which unfortunately, is also accompanied by emotional manipulation. It’s the one thing that completely shuts me down and causes me to walk away. Quickly.

I hope you aren’t in the middle of a situation like this. If you are, I hope there’s resolution quickly and that heartfelt apologies are forthcoming. No one deserves this sort of treatment.
