I smell turkey…

Turkey is done (courtesy of Yes Dear’s 20qt roaster) and the pies are baking right now.  The veggie nibble tray is being put together, and the rest of the necessary sides will follow soon.  Estimated dinner time: about 3pm CST.

Later we’ll take some of the food (but keep plenty of leftovers) and add them to whatever the SIL is preparing, and just nibble over at their place.  Normally dinner over there is delayed until later in the evening (7-8pm not unusual at all) and all too often the results fall far short of the efforts.  But there is plenty of help over there, so if everybody coordinates properly they might actually serve something in a more timely manner.  But Yes Dear insisted we at least do something for ourselves, which she’s pretty good at.

In the meantime, my primary job is keeping the kitchen clean whenever her and PBJ take a break from cooking, trash duty, and making sure that AJ stays out from underfoot in the kitchen.  I’d much rather do dishes as they go rather than deal with a mountain of them at the end.  One tradition I can do without.

I can list dozens of things that I’m thankful for, but I’ll just share the one that stands out the most:  I’m thankful to have my family together this holiday season, under one roof, after eighteen months of separation.

Okay, I’ll share one more: I’m thankful for all the friends that I’ve met in the blogosphere, via my blog.  And yes, I do consider you my friends, even if we only meet and correspond online.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.  May yours be full of family, good times, and good food, and may you all eat yourselves comatose.  With smiles on your faces.
